John Steinbeck Cannery Row

Monterey California is the setting of John Steinbeck's book, published in 1945 and set in 1938. It is the story of a poverty stricken group of guys Mack and the Boys, and a scientist, Doc, who was interested in studying the marine life of the area. There was a general store they went to for their groceries and also a bar they went to for beer.
