News organisations are excellent sources of information, as long as you target a news source that is appropriate for your research topic, and preferrably ones that are reputable and reliable.

These days news organisations have numerous platforms to broadcast their news, including traditional paper, websites, podcasts, apps and YouTube channels.

Online News

The news sources below, and others like The Huffington Post, are purely online news sources. They are excellent sources of information, especially on topical or current issues, and attempt to offer an experience different to traditional news organisations.

  • Google News - an excellent research tool if used correctly; it searches countless sources, national and international, within seconds and allows the user to personalise searches and target sources.
  • Vice News - Vice considers itself an alternative to traditional news, its tone is quite different and can be confrontational. It often covers topics in depth and of social or global concern.
  • Big Stories -  is one of the many native BuzzFeed sites; it is considered a respected, investigative journalism site which provides indepth articles on a range of issues.

Traditional News

Most traditional news organisations have affiliated websites. Below are some examples of the well known traditional news websites.

YouTube News Channels

It is now common for news organisations, including those on the left, to have YouTube channels which are regularly updated and provide both short and long form stories. You can always search for these sites on YouTube. Below is an example of a news story on the ABC News YouTube channel.
